Seaton Carew Bowling Club 1961 - Present

Seaton Carew Bowling Club was founded on 26th September 1961. The first meeting being held in the Seaton Hotel.

The following people were elected during that meeting, Mr. F E Modral as President, Mr. J Proud as Vice President, Mr. JJ Oram as Club Secretary, Mr. H Rowe as Assistant Secretary, Mr. H Wynn as Treasurer.

The following people formed a committee, Messers, Widdowfield - Gardener - Rous - Phillipson - Liddle - Reavley - Jessop - Bennet.

The initial payment per member being 10/ for the coming 1962 season, the selection committee for that season being Mr. Rous - Mr. Gardener - Mr. Widdowfield - Mr. Phillipson

Before the start of the 1962 season a game took place between members to commemorate the opening of the park. It was agreed to play two practice games against Washington Glebe and Owton Lodge.

For the start of the 1962 season it was decided to enter two teams and one team in the vets league, club Captain was Mr. Gardener, the Bowling Club held meetings in various local places including Seaton Hotel, Marine Hotel, Seaton Club and even Dinsdale Lodge. Over the coming years the club moved from strength to strength winning various leagues.

In 1978 Mr. R. Forster had the honour of representing England at international level and had his name placed on the honours board in the clubhouse.

The present club has 32 members but new members are always welcome, the team plays in Hartlepool Mid-Week Leagues and Saturday League. We Also have a Vets team which play on a Thursday and Friday afternoon.

A ladies team plays on a Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, they play play in a league involving teams from Cleveland and are always welcoming to new members.
Over the coming years the club moved from strength to strength winning various leagues.

The years between 1969 and 1985 look to be the most succesful in the clubs history, the club also had  Town, County and International Honours.
